MrBeast claimed the pole position in this week’s Global Top 50 chart. The most popular YouTube star in the United States picked up 1.27 billion weekly views on his primary channel. Next week, he’ll bringing his lifetime view count above 145 billion, and his channel still has more subscribers than any other.
The #2 channel in the Global Top 50 isn’t quite as successful as MrBeast, but it’s no slouch, either. It’s a kid-friendly channel (no surprise there) that is taking advantage of the holiday spirit to push its weekly view count into ten-digit territory.
When you have candy on Halloween, don’t forget to brush your teeth
When you think of a Halloween-themed YouTube video, you might imagine a costume lookbook, haunted house tour, or pre-party GRWM routine. For parents and their kids, however, a new type of spooky season upload has emerged. With dozens of candy bars on the horizon, kid-friendly channels are reminding little ones to brush their teeth after they’ve had their fill.
Tooth-brushing videos are common on family YouTube channels at all times of the year, but in October, the channels offering those life lessons get a little boost. In particular, two hubs that enjoyed large week-over-week increases during the days leading up to Halloween are led by animated tooth mascots.
First up, let’s look at the leading Spanish-language entry within that genre. El Tren Ñam-Ñam made it all the way up to #2 in the Global Top 50, trailing only MrBeast. It collected 1.07 billion weekly views during the period leading up to Halloween. With that sum, it nearly doubled its traffic week-over-week.
The Ñam-Ñam mascot is indeed a tooth, though it also has teeth of its own that it has to brush. (Do those teeth also have teeth? How deep does this go?) Ñam-Ñam doesn’t just remind kids to take their dental care seriously — it instructs them that they must brush for at least two minutes to ensure a squeaky clean smile.
With an oral hygiene routine like that, there’s no way any Twix bars or Snickers could stand a chance. Ñam-Ñam’s October surge will help the niños take care of themselves when they go to obtain their massive trick-or-treating hauls.
The same could be said about a popular English-language channel. VocaVoca has earned plenty of Top 50 finishes over the past few years, but it had a particularly strong showing during the most recent Global Top 50. It reached 11th place in the viewership chart after increasing its traffic by 6% week-over-week and topping out at 674.5 million weekly views.
VocaVoca has a tooth mascot of its, and its brushing-related content has had a regular presence on the channel. The most-watched VocaVoca short is a morning routine song that emphasizes oral care. That video was uploaded at the start of September, but it really took off in October, when VocaVoca averaged more than 650 million views per week.
For the typical kid, tooth brushing is a year-round activity, so it will be interesting to see if these dental mascots can maintain their strong chart positions in November. Is there room for Ñam-Ñam and VocaVoca in a less chocolatey content landscape?
If they fall out of the Global Top 50, it might not be for long. Thanksgiving and Christmas bring plenty of sweet treats of their own, and during those excessive holidays, dental hygiene is as imperative as it is during Halloween.
