X has been trying to increase its potential as a video platform since it was still known as Twitter. Now, four years into Elon Musk‘s reign, the social media hub is debuting a new form of monetization. The Video Kickstart Bonus program will deliver payouts to creators who publish regular uploads over a set period of time.

For now, the Video Kickstart Bonus is a pilot program that is being tested among a select group of creators. Those lab rats will be notified of their eligibility via their Creator Studio dashboards. Once they join the program, they must post 15 “qualifying videos” on 15 different days across a predetermined “period.” X’s Video Kickstart Bonus rules do not specify exactly how long each period is.

Upon completion of that task, participating creators will be rewarded with bonuses that could be up to $3,000 in value. U.S.-based creators will be paid through the X Money account while creators in other territories will be able to cash out through a connected Stripe account.

If this setup sounds familiar, it’s because YouTube just announced something similar a few days ago. The YouTube Shorts Bonus Program is a revenue stream that rewards consistency, and like X’s Video Kickstart Bonus, the YouTube program is currently being tested on an invite-only basis.

In our coverage of the YouTube Shorts Bonus Program, we noted that the platform could be promoting consistency to build a bigger library of original content. That seems to be X’s goal as well. Like Instagram, X is allocating payouts to those who post original videos. The test subjects for the Video Kickstart Bonus will be fast-tracked into the Original Content Rewards Program, which X launched earlier this year.

For X, the development of more reliable revenue streams has been a years-long process. Now, that monetization is arriving in multiple forms, and in return, X will get the robust videomaking community it has long coveted.
